Exploring Beading

In this class we will learn to create beaded designs in many different techniques, first we'll do a simple Peyote Stitch design, then move on to more advanced Peyote Stitch including uneven count and Tubular Peyote. Perhaps we'll explore stitching jewelry, next or maybe bead loom work. In any case the projects will be driven by the students and we'll just work our way through the many beading techniques. Perfect for the person who just loves the look of beads! Class meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month. Price is a montly fee and does not include materials.

Counted Thread

A Linen for the First Time

This class is designed to introduce the stitcher to working on evenweave fabrics. A lovely floral design by Gloria & Pat is cross stitched on 28ct Cashel Linen then surrounded with a Double Cross Filling Stitch border. You will learn to identify the "linen starting place" and to count both vertically and horizontally on linen. Class kit includes the finishing materials and frame.

Drawn Thread Bookmark

This counted thread technique was used originally as a decorative hem stitch for table linens and clothing. Today designers include drawn thread techniques in samplers as well as household and clothing embellishments. In this class you will create a bookmark while learning to anchor the cut threads and needleweave the uncut threads using Hemstitch, Nun's Stitch, Satin Stitch, Smyrna Cross Stitch and a decorative Needleweaving pattern. This is a Stitcher's Workshop exclusive design.

Exploring Needlepoint

Framing Needlework

Learn the basics of framing your needlework including preparing the piece, choosing frames and mats, and mounting the piece by lacing and by pinning. We'll discuss what to consider when choosing to use glass and how to decide if the piece would be better off without the glass. You will lace a piece on foamcore and measure it up for ordering the frame. All materials are included in the price.

Ribbon Embroidery

Learn basic ribbon techniques and common ribbon stitches while you create a lovely linen guest towel. You choose white on white or ecru on ecru materials included in the class fee.

Tatting With a Needle

Instructor: Pat Dugan
Learn the traditional lace making technique of Needle Tatting! You will learn how to read tatting patterns and how to execute the basic tatting stitch while creating a lace edging and a medallion. This is a two session class. Kit includes an instruction booklet, needle and thread.

A Saturday Stitcher

This group of stitchers prefers to explore needlework and wants to learn new techniques and stitches in a casual, fun atmosphere. We have a formal class one meeting each month where either a technique or a stitch is taught. The rest of the month is Sit 'n Stitch. In 2011 we will create our own book of needlework stitches. This design by Erica Michaels for Rainbow Gallery will feature two different counted stitches each month stitched onto the leaves of your Book. At the end of the year we'll put it all together with a lovely cover and you will have completed a treasure! Price is monthly fee and does not include materials.

Kid's Stitch

Instructor: Pat Dugan
Make sure your child learns at least the basics of needlework. Kids, ten and older, learn counted cross stitch, needlepoint, and surface embroidery in a relaxed classroom setting. Instruction moves from basic to more advanced as your child learns. Parent's input is encouraged and each child is free to move in the direction of their interest. The class meets every Wednesday, immediately after school and finishes about 5:00. Fee is monthly, materials are extra. Norphlet students earn $5 each month for the Leopard Challenge. Class size is limited so sign up early! If the class you want is full we will place you on a waiting list in case of cancellation. A 50% deposit is required to reserve your space in the class. We reserve to right to cancel any class that doesn't make the minimum with a full refund of fees paid. If you cancel 48 hours prior to the class, we will make every effort to fill your spot. If the spot fills you will receive a full refund of fees paid, if not the fees will be applied to another class of your choice. Of course, you may choose to apply the fees to another class in either case.

Class room policies:
- Only the person who registers for the class will be allowed to sit in.
- No children are allowed in the class room unless registered in a class for children.
- No smoking is allowed in the building.
- No food or drink is allowed at the class table.
