It’s been some time since I’ve added to the Blog as things have been really crazy here in the shop. And I’ve been concentrating on an adventure I’ve wanted to begin for some time and the time is NOW!
This new undertaking really is the result of comments many of you made a couple of years ago about a Customer Gallery entry. When you scroll down and see the photo you’ll remember this design and you may well be one of the many stitchers who asked for the chart. It’s taken me a while to get to the point where I feel comfortable making this step but here we go. The photo below is a photo of the first design to be published and distributed by APH~Designs, our new design company! Right now there are a dozen or more on the list to be released so stay tuned!
In the meantime please enjoy Reader’s Paradise with special pride knowing it was comments by readers of the blog that brought it into being. Of course you can now purchase your copy of the chart! Just click here to place your order.
Reader's Paradise by Joan Hersherberger
The verse is “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library”
We stitched the model on White 32ct Belfast Linen with DMC Floss and Kreinik #4 Braid and used our family member’s names on the books. You could use your family or perhaps your favorite authors or your favorite titles. This is an easy design to make all your own as we include an alphabet in two sizes and a grid for charting the words you want. The #4 Braid is color 002. If you have a good collection of DMC you may well have all the threads you need to stitch this as it doesn’t take a lot of each color. If you need a list just let me know and I’ll email it to you. Order a fat eighth of the Belfast or if you prefer Aida, a fat quarter of 16ct.
I hope you enjoy this first offering and watch for more coming soon.

This is a great project to stitch in all this heat! Watch my progress over the summer to see how it goes.
The first two Fat Men are stitched!
My edition of this Lizzie Kate collection is stitched on Toasted Almond Cashel from Zweigart with the Weeks Dye Works and Crescent Colours hand dyed floss. I’m having a great time with this, even stitching in the evening, something I’ve not done for awhile as I’m a morning stitcher. I’ll post updates as I complete each section.
Find the charts for this fun design here!

In January last year I posted a picture of a needlepoint American Flag that I stitched for Mr. D and gave an explanation of how I created the piece. Since then he framed the flag and his eagle and it’s been hanging in the shop. Yesterday I realized I’d never shown you what he did with the piece so here it is.
 I love this piece!
He did an awesome job of framing this design and including the flag just made it all the better. He has such great ideas about how to compose a piece!
As you probably remember, the flag is stitched on 18m canvas with Trio by brown paper packages and Kreinik Braid. Let me know about pieces you’ve created for unusual applications or just because your best friend wanted it!

This last week I’ve been working on the pieces for the Needlework Hideaway Class, “Explorations”, so I don’t have a lot to show you since that class is a mystery project. It is going to be fun though, I’m enjoying stitching the pieces and especially enjoying knowing that each student will finish with a totally different piece based on fun choices.
Saturday while the Saturday Stitchers were here I worked on the Blue and White Sampler for our guest room. This has been in the works a long time but I only work on it on Saturdays when I don’t have something else to work on or customers to help. This photo doesn’t show the colors as well as I’d like but you can probably imagine as it’s DMC 823 dark blue on White Cashel Linen from Zweigart. I’m really liking the way it looks and really liking that I’m more than half done now. Isn’t the border pretty?

At this site you’ll see an exhibit of Russian Embroidery. I enjoyed the explanations of the difference in techniques between the different regions of Russia. Â Â http://www.russia-ic.com/news/show/11562/ Click on through to the exhibit to read all about it.
http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/Love-art-bind-embroiderers-guild.html I got to see the tablecloth mentioned in this article at the meeting a couple weeks ago . WOW! It is awesome. The white on white was a perfect choice as it adds texture to the surface of the tablecloth without being obvious. Having signatures from family members who are no longer with her makes this an irreplaceable treasure.
Don’t know if I’ve shared this blog before but this lady is a prolific stitcher with a penchant for trying new things. I’ve enjoyed following her http://melitastitches4fun.wordpress.com/
Until next time, keep stitching.

Come add your stitches to this lovely project!
The Night Owls Quilt Guild here in Union County received twelve cross stitch blocks of the 12 Days of Christmas by Teresa Wentzler from the Loose Threads Chapter of EGA with the request that they be pieced into a quilt to benefit a charity supporting children. The cross stitch blocks were stitched on 28ct Cream Cashel Linen from Zweigart with DMC floss.
Guild members assembled the quilt top, provided batting and have the quilt on a frame in the Class Room at the shop now being hand quilted. We’re using Bijoux in copper, red, and green for the quilting and find it is adding a subtle sparkle to a striking piece.
Once the quilt is finished it will be donated to Hope Landing for their annual fund drive. Tickets will be available from Hope Landing staff and the Night Owls Quilt Guild members as well as here at the shop. Hope Landing’s Mission Statement says: The mission of HOPE Landing is to bring hope and purpose to the lives of children with disabilities by helping them achieve their God-given potential. making them the perfect choice to receive the quilt!
Come try your hand at quilting and don’t forget to purchase tickets when they go on sale!

You know I really enjoy typing the 2010, it’s fun to think of a new decade ahead of us, a clean slate we can use to write our life’s story. I hope yours includes lots of stitching!
Rhonda told me she wants to see the monthly special at the beginning of the newsletter in case she doesn’t have time to read it all so… All the month of February we will be holding the line on the price of our beading kits. Beads took a price increase beginning January 1 but we want you to have the opportunity to get the kits you’ve been wanting so now’s the time to order. Some beads increased as much as 20% so don’t delay, we will be changing the prices on March 1! Now, I hope you’ll take the time to read on because there are more fun things to follow!
How unbelievably terrible that the new decade began with the devastation in Haiti. You probably have already made donations to the relief effort but Stitcher’s Village has another fun way for you to participate. Click here and purchase Janie’s cute new design created to raise funds for one of the agencies working in Haiti, download the design and stitch it up for a reminder of how fortunate we are to not have to face this horror every day.
While you’re on the Stitcher’s Village page be sure to click on the Stitcher’s Voice and then on the latest edition to read the article about us. Participate in the contest and win the $100 gift certificate to the shop! Use it online or in the shop, or if you’ll be at either of the Region Seminars we are doing this year you can use it there. Want to know more about those Region Seminars? Call the shop and we’ll fill you in.
Another interesting place to visit is Kreinik’s page on Facebook. There you will find photos of stitched pieces using the Kreinik products, along with photos from TNNA Market in California and lots of great ideas to encourage you to stitch. Take a look and don’t forget to Friend us there. We’re under Patricia Ann Dugan. We are also on Twitter if you keep up with your friends that way. I post updates to the Blog and new products in both places so you can be the first to find out what’s going on if you follow us there.
Needlework Hideaway, Spring 2010 is just around the corner. We still have room for you so click here and sign up today. We have awesome goodies planned for the attendees this Spring and a new teacher, Debbie Gwaltney of Starlight Designs offering a couple of great classes. As always, you are welcome to just come sit & stitch in the greatroom! This is a totally fun event, perfect for regrounding, and washing away the stresses in your life. I always leave feeling refreshed and ready. Come join us…
New products include The Sweetheart Tree automatic and the Lizzie Kate automatic. Just type New in the Search engine on the site to see all the new products that have arrived in the last couple of months. Just in today are samples of the new Zweigart Congress Cloth colors. I’ve put together a .pdf file of those colors that you can find and print on the Canvas page and I’ve also posted them on the Blog.
We have an upgraded system for composing the Newsletter this month. Our Webmaster warned that some of you may have problems receiving it because of your email provider so if you have problems just email pat@stitchersworkshop.com and let me know, I’ll send a .pdf of the newsletter for you.
 Until next time, keep stitching,
Pat

Welcome to Rhonda’s Corner. Â Here we are going to post what Rhonda’s working on fairly regularly. Check back often because she gets a LOT of stitching done so you’ll see something new every week.
Today she brought in her completed Autumn Maples, a new design by From Nancy’s Needle, all ready to finish up! Looks like she’ll frame this one so check back for the framed photo.
Â
 What a pretty piece!
Rhonda is the one who stitched the From Nancy’s Needle Two Cabins design we show in the Dugan’s Specialties box called, what else, Rhonda’s Box.
 Here's the design
Here it is in the box.
