I learned this project from Jeanette at Needlework Hideaway Spring 2012 retreat. What a great way to learn new things and see new projects as well as hear some incredible stories!
 Thanks Jeanette!
Materials list:
12½” x width of fabric main color
18½” x width of fabric background color (be sure to purchase more than 18″ so you have trim – mine finished 17″ because I didn’t)
2 buttons for trim
Cut fabric. My main color is a stripe that runs the length of the fabric so I purchased 1½ yards and cut it 12½” x 44″ centering the stripes in the 12½” and cutting on the straight of the print rather than the straight of the grain. I trimmed one end after I got the side seams sewn.
With right sides together and using a ¼” seam sew the fabric together on the long sides.
Turn right side out and arrange until the borders are the same width then press.
Fold the piece in half the long way with the main color to the inside of the fold and stitch the ends closed using a ¼” seam.
Open the fold with the flaps to the front and work them out evenly. Fold the points down over the front of the runner and tack them in place or sew the buttons to the points to secure and you’re done! (I made yoyos with the main color and sewed the buttons thru the middle of the yoyo and thru the point to the back of the runner. I like the dimension the yoyo adds.)
Took me more than 10 minutes but it was quick…

Lots and lots of things to talk about this month. First, we have the Customer Gallery winners!
 First Place Winner
 Second Place Winner
 Third Place Winner
You know, I think we were all winners getting to see the wonderful pieces. If you have a piece here you might want to come pick it up and pick up your winnings and your discount coupons for entering. Thanks to all who entered and to all who voted! Get your pieces in the works for next year’s Customer Gallery.
Don’t forget the Lizzie*Kate Trunk Show is still here through the 20th of August. You can see all the goodies that came with the show by clicking here and you can see all the Lizzie*Kate products in stock by clicking here. Nothing beats seeing the models in person so if you’re close enough, come take a look! The next automatic is scheduled to ship on Monday so we may well have those new designs here before the end of the show. This shipment will include the long awaited 6 Fat Men series and the 2011 Tiny Tidings! You can keep up with all the Lizzie*Kate doings by following their blog.
 Here's a sneak peek!
Lots of fun things going on in the next few months. Tracey and I are participating in Celebration of Needlework in St. Charles, Missouri in September. You can see the information about this fun consumer show at Celebration of Needlework. Still plenty of time to register. Do you remember the Spirit of Cross Stitch events? This is the same type of event! Tracey is teaching a class on Peyote Stitch so if you’ve wanted to get started with that technique this is the perfect time to begin. She’s also bringing her Threaded Needle Designs Trunk Show so come participate in this great stitcher’s event.
Of course Needlework Hideaway is just a few months away, we’re counting the days now! The classes are up on the website so visit Needlework Hideaway to see them. We have two new teachers this time and are excited to add them to your choices. Ruby Bailey will teach a beautiful beaded bracelet and Libby Roleson will teach a Kumihimo Bracelet and a Basic Earring class. We’ve set our 2012 schedule and will have contracts with the Red Apple Inn soon.
We are changing the days and hours at the shop beginning the week of August 22nd. I’m off to ANG National Seminar in San Antonio, TX and Mr. D is keeping the shop open for you on Thurs., Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. These hours will be in effect until further notice but remember that we’ll open up for you when you need to come with just a phone call or email to make arrangements for that. Mail order will be handled just as always so your orders will go out as usual.
We’ve added a new Thread of the Month Club that came to us as a suggestion from a customer. Each month I’ll chose an overdyed thread and add a variety of threads to complement it to create a collection that can go directly into a project! We’ll choose from across the lines of threads we carry so you may get a collection based on Waterlilies or on ThreadworX or on Overture that may include Kreinik, Rainbow Gallery, Caron Collection, DMC, Bella Lusso, Accentuate, Trebizond, Weeks Dye Works, The Gentle Art… you get the idea, if the threads work together you’ll get them! We’re looking forward to this Collection so sign up today! Here’s where you can see them.
I can hardly wait until we actually get to Seminar as I’ve been stitching the ANG Stitch of the Month a little ahead at the request of the Board and am all finished but can’t show you until they are shown at Seminar. All the Area Representatives are working on these so the excitement is building to see them finished. Mr. D is framing mine next week and I’m going to take a photo so that I can post it here as soon as we get the go ahead!!
Keep cool and keep stitching,
Pat

CORRECTIONS!!
My apologies to Pat Starks for spelling her name wrong and to Kathy Schenkel for giving credit for her design to A Collection of Designs. Don’t know wehre my brain went while I was working on this…
Â
These pieces were finished by Pat Stark, a regular at Needlework Hideaway, after we had a talk about finishing and a demo of finishing needlepoint canvases. Isn’t it great when someone takes what you’ve shown them and creates such fun pieces!
Pat wanted a different finish for this cute little chick and the "Gift" finishing technique was just what she needed!

Another great Needlework Hideaway added wonderful memories of stitching and learning and sharing with incredible people in an incredible environment! The Red Apple was again fantastic, the food great, and the attention we got very satisfying. Thanks to everyone in this awesome group of stitchers for the fun surprise party! I’m delighted that I got to spend my birthday with all of you.
The online Needlework Show is upon us. See what’s new at the Needlework Show and mark your calendar for 2pm April 14th, the first day of the show and remember that the General Viewing pages are closed at midnight on Sunday, April 17th. Get your orders to me by Monday noon so I have time to get them together and posted to the designers. More information will be sent next week!
Are you watching the excitement building for the Royal Wedding? Take a look at what Gay Ann Rogers has designed for those who really want to celebrate this event:
Royal Monogram Geometric in a Custom Box
Along with the box top you’ll find a selection of stitchers’ toys to fill the box when you visit Gay Ann’s site. Sign up for Gay Ann’s stitching group at the Shinning Needle Society Yahoo Group.
You’ll find the box here along with some of Mr D’s other boxes. Enjoy!
I’ve signed up for a service from Google that alerts me when new items about embroidery are posted online. I’ve been amazed at the incredible pieces posted recently. Seems as though the fashion industry has again found embroidery and many of the lines are featuring it on their designs. Of course, we know that it’s not much of a stretch to create your own one-of-a-kind pieces with a needle and thread. I’m considering offering a clothing embellishment class. Please drop me a line if your interested!
The beading trunk show from Threaded Needle Designs is back here for a few weeks. Watch for the new designs I’ll get posted as Tracey kits them up. Designers in this trunk show are Deb Moffett-Hall, Chris Manes, Ann Paxton-Winebrenner, Amy Loh-Kupser, and of course Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs. Don’t miss these while they’re here.
In the meantime watch for the Online Show and take some time from gardening to stitch!

Spring has arrived here in south Arkansas! Those who’ve lived here any lengh of time have learned that it’s officially spring when the Wisteria bloom and the pine pollen falls. We have other earlier blooming plants, daffodils and Bradford Pear trees always bloom earlier, but for the most part the frost is gone when the pine pollen falls…
There were a couple of different places where someone had planted Wisteria in the area we lived in Colorado when I was growing up and I always thought that was the most beautiful plant! Little did I know that I would one day live where folks considered it a noxious weed. At any rate, I love my Wisteria tree and appreciate my neighbor who took me out into the woods and showed me what to harvest and how to plant and train Wisteria so it would grow into a tree (bush?). Here it is 8 years later, my favorite harbinger of Spring.
Isn't this a lovely way to greet Spring?
I was trying to snap a photo of the huge bees that love this plant but wasn’t successful in catching one. You may well see this picture again in another medium, stitched or quilted or both!
 Here's a close-up of the flowers!
Didn’t take a photo of the pine pollen as I really try hard to pretend it’s not here! Never knew why these lovely trees were called Southern YELLOW Pine until the first spring we spent in the South. Now I know.
This last week someone posted on the ANG list a link to these videos. They are awesome! Take a minute to check these out and be sure to bookmark the site as there is lots to learn on this site. Go to Needlepoint Now instructional video and click on the video camera to see all the choices of videos.
When I’m not admiring my Wisteria I’ve been working on the Quilt Guild projects. This month we learned a quick technique for the Dresden Plate block, were given the fabrics and instructions and will return them to the Guild to be made up into a quilt for a family that has experienced a tragedy. We try to keep a few quilts on hand and ready to help when a fire or other tragedy strikes a local family. Here’s my block ready to go back to the April meeting.
Completed Dresden Plate Block - what fun!
Can’t show you what I’ve been stitching because it’s a secret for Needlework Hideaway in a couple of weeks. Still a spot or two available. Take a look at what we’ll be doing at Needlework Hideaway at the Red Apple Inn the end of the month.
Until next time, keep stitching!

We had so much fun last year with the 15th Anniversary Celebration I thought we would try another monthly theme. For January all in stock Just Nan products are on sale 20% off. Purchase the materials you need to complete the designs at the same time and you’ll get 20% off that as well! Just let us know in the notes section of the shopping cart that you want us to kit the pieces you choose and we’ll let you know the cost before shipping. I’ve just gone through the shop, pulled all the Just Nan so it’s right up front for the local shoppers and made sure that everything on the website is in stock. We do have a limited number of most of the designs so shop early because we’ll be pulling them off the site as they sell out. Here’s a hint, type Just Nan in the search window as she has some beautiful charms as well as the leaflets, you won’t want to miss those.
If you enjoy seeing unusual applications of needlework you’re going to enjoy looking at the Crochet Coral Reef Be sure to click on the video to hear all about how this amazing project came into being.
I am hoping to post more often to this blog this year and to share what I’m working on with all of you. Please feel free to comment on any posts you see here. I finished this piece on January 1, 2011. Sure would like to finish something every month this year!
Tracey designed this for the Fall, 2010 Needlework Hideaway!
This time of year most people decide to work on getting organized. If you’re one who makes that decision, you’ll get help cataloging your stitching books at Library Thing. This site is good for anything in your library, just be sure to save some stitching time as well.
Now some not so great news! New pricing on DMC products beginning February 1. We are 10¢ below suggested retail on floss now but with the increase we’re not going to be able to stay at 49¢ so order now if you need floss. DMC Perle #3 and #5 will increase from $1.39 to $1.45 which will affect the kits for the From Nancy’s Needle designs as well so take a look at all of those and make your choices while you can get them for the current price.
Just so we don’t end on that note, I found a beautiful new free chart from Passione Ricamo that I think you’ll like. Click here and download the chart.
Scroll on down to see the winner of the Ornament Design Contest, it’s incredible! And, the kit will be ready soon so you can create one for yourself. You’ll find the Kreinik Finishing Kit on the Fabric (kit with silk gauze) page or the Finishing (kit without the silk gauze) page.
Until next time, keep stitchin’ and come see us!

Lots to talk about this month! The kids are back in school and it’s time to stitch…
Â
To get you started take a look at the next Blog entry, called Ornament Contest. I know it’s scary to think about designing a piece but this is a small ornament where you can play. Grab a piece of 14ct and start doodling. Use Kreinik threads and keep the design round or something that will fit in a round and have fun! I didn’t do the math in the contest announcement but on 14ct the piece needs to fit in a 5-1/4″ circle. Not a big piece but large enough to allow for some detail. Think Christmas with this one. The best part of participating in this contest is that whether or not you win you can use your design as the entry fee for our 15th Anniversary Celebration. Well, maybe the best part is the $100 of Kreinik threads that’s the Grand Prize or the Gift Certificates to the shop?
Â
Don’t forget that October 15th is the big day, lots of fun activities both in the shop and online and lots of great deals to be had. In order to receive the discounts we’ll offer we need you to send an ornament for the Salvation Army/SAAC Christmas Tree we’ll decorate this year. Get the ornament to us by the 14th so we have time to register it and you’ll be eligible for the discounts! A stitcher who is planning to participate was admiring Rhonda’s finishing techniques on an ornament and wished she knew how to do that kind of work so we’ll plan a finishing class for all the stitched ornaments we receive some time in early November so you’ll have plenty of time to finish yours for this Holiday season. Get stitchin on that ornament!
Â
We found this site and thought it was interesting enough to share. I’m not a math expert and don’t totally understand what he’s talking about with the math part but I did like the stitched piece. This link offers more choices of pieces to create based on math principles. Enjoy!
Â
Reminder, get your Fair entry in by Friday to be sure we can get it framed in time. We’ve framed some beautiful pieces this summer so this year’s Fair exhibit should be awesome.
Â
Recently we’ve had several customers request different Thread of the Month Club offerings. Take a look at what we offer and let us know what lines you would like to collect and we’ll add them to the list. Over the past couple of years the thread companies have had to increase prices. We’ve tried to hold the line on the prices of the TOMC but in January, 2011 we will have to change the individual collections to reflect the new pricing. The customers who are collecting a line will be able to complete that line at the price they signed on for, only new orders will be at the new price. That means that if you sign up now the entire line is available to you at this year’s price, a real savings over the life of the line! Sign up today and you’ll receive a fun suprise package the first part of each month. Available lines are in the Rainbow Gallery, Caron Collection, Au ver a Soie, brown paper packages, Gentle Art, Weeks Dye Works, ThreadworX, Trebizond, Accentuate, Soy Luster, Barouque Silk, and Bijou line. Plus you can request any other line we carry to build your collection, see them here.
Â
Ok, have to get to the shop and get the next fun thing started but before I go I want to remind you about the Needlework Hideaway. This fall we’ll gather at the Red Apple Inn on November 4th thru the 7th for fun stitching, good company and great food! Still room for you so take a look and register today!
Â
See you soon,
Â
Pat

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010
Wow, has the time gotten away from us, thanks to you this has been a super busy first of the year for Stitcher’s Workshop.
As a result this note is a couple of weeks late and for that I apologize! However, since we missed out on the beginning of our March 15th Year Celebration, we’re going to extend the Luck ‘o the Irish event for the entire rest of the month. St. Patrick’s Day is the kick-off and, just as we do every year, we’ll have tea and scones all day tomorrow and our Pot ‘o Gold for you to choose your discount. Remember you could receive anywhere from 10% to 50% off your purchases all day the 16th. Just make you selections and pick a coin from the Pot ‘o Gold and you’ll receive the discount you find there. This event extends to our online customers as well, so make your choices, submit your order and we’ll have a customer in the shop when we receive the order pull your coin. You get the discount shown! Â
Because this is such late notice we will be extending the discount every Wednesday for the rest of the month! No tea and scones I’m afraid but the Pot ‘o Gold stays on the desk until the end of the month! Just make sure to shop on Wednesday!
Have you tried YouTube yet? I was curious so I typed Needlepoint in the search window and found tons of interesting videos on needlepoint. If you type in needlework stitches you’ll find everything from Continental Stitch to knitting stitches. You might want to take a little of what you see with a grain of salt but for the most part I was really impressed with the information.
Another cool place to visit online is the ThreadworX site where you can see an awesome color card of their threads and sign up for their newsletter packed with good information and fun projects. Just click on the Join button in the upper right corner of the home page and you’ll be directed to the sign ! up page.
Needlework Hideaway is coming up soon. I leave for the Red Apple on Thursday, March 25 for a fun filled weekend of stitching, food, stitching, friends, stitching… You get the idea. We still have room but if you’re planning to attend call now as I’m making the last minute reservations.
New From Nancy’s Needle designs are on the Counted Canvas page. Just click on Small Monthly Quilt Series and then on Quilt Series to see her newest designs. Want it easy? Just type New in the Search Engine.
Also, new colors from Caron Collection in both Watercolours and Wildflowers! Sign up today for the Caron Thread of the Month Club and collect all these beautiful threads! Find them here.
Until next time, keep stitching,
Pat
