Donation Quilt in Progress

Saturday, July 17th, 2010
Come put a few stitches on this lovely project!

Come add your stitches to this lovely project!

The Night Owls Quilt Guild here in Union County received twelve cross stitch blocks of the 12 Days of Christmas by Teresa Wentzler from the Loose Threads Chapter of EGA with the request that they be pieced into a quilt to benefit a charity supporting children.  The cross stitch blocks were stitched on 28ct Cream Cashel Linen from Zweigart with DMC floss.

Guild members assembled the quilt top, provided batting and have the quilt on a frame in the Class Room at the shop now being hand quilted. We’re using Bijoux in copper, red, and green for the quilting and find it is adding a subtle sparkle to a striking piece.

Once the quilt is finished it will be donated to Hope Landing for their annual fund drive. Tickets will be available from Hope Landing staff and the Night Owls Quilt Guild members as well as here at the shop. Hope Landing’s Mission Statement says: The mission of HOPE Landing is to bring hope and purpose to the lives of children with disabilities by helping them achieve their God-given potential. making them the perfect choice to receive the quilt!

Come try your hand at quilting and don’t forget to purchase tickets when they go on sale!

Meet a new Stitcher!

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

We just got back from the EGA South Central Region mid-Year meeting in Dallas. Had a great time and saw many of you there. It’s always so much fun to catch up and to see people who love what you love, even if it’s only a couple of times a year.

Just before we left for the meeting a new customer came into the shop, a young mom, new to our community who loves to stitch! She was on a mission to create a gift for a special little guy and knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish, just wanted some ideas on how to go about it. Don’t you know I was delighted to work with her!

Here are a couple of photos of the completed projects she brought in the day after she was in for materials. She drew the cute sea creatures, embroidered them on muslin and using Blanket Stitch, appliqued them to the hoodie towels she had purchased at WalMart. Not only is her drawing and stitching incredible but her imagination and creativity left me in awe. How wonderful to know that young stitchers are coming up and will exhibit this kind of talent.

The model is her adorable young son who totally enjoyed the picture taking.

Aren't the octupus and whale cute?

Aren't the octopus and whale cute?

Of course not as cute as this little guy!

Customer Christmas Spirit

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Here’s a photo to get you totally in the Christmas spirit! A customer recently brought some of her creations to the shop to share what it is she does with all the beautiful threads she buys. These are Temari balls, an ancient Japanese craft, originally a child’s toy.  Aren’t these lovely? I can tell you this child wants one!

The threads she uses include DMC perle #5, Kreinik Braids and Rainbow Gallery Braids. You could also decorate with beads and treasures or choose some of the other wonderful decorative threads.

You’ll find them at http://www.beusen.net then click on Needlework Resources. These are .pdf files you can either read online or print and read. She also has some great projects posted. Hope you find some inspiration!

Thanks to Marguerite for a link to this page where you will find videos of a number of stitches. The instructions on the couple I watched were good and the sound is pleasant. Take a look and bookmark this page! http://www.needlenthread.com/2006/10/video-library-of-hand-embroidery.html The videos are under Editor’s Floss on the right side of the screen.

Can you find me?

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

Rhonda is working on this piece and brought it to the shop to select another thread she needed. I was so intrigued that I thought we might have a little fun with it. Here is the picture of Rhonda with the piece. Can you guess what design she’s working on? Somewhere on the website you’ll find the chart for this design. Each week we’ll post a new photo of Rhonda’s progress on the piece so if you can’t tell what it is this week be sure to come back next week to see if you can tell then. It will be fun to see how much of this piece needs to be stitched before someone can identify it!

This is the first hint, can you tell which design this is?

Of course, if you have a contest, you have to have a prize so the first person to email the correct chart name and location on our website (just copy and paste the url in the email) will receive a copy of the chart! This is not a $5 chart but I can’t tell you how much it is because that is too much of a clue…  Have fun with this!
