Exciting News!

Sunday, April 28th, 2013

It’s been some time since I’ve added to the Blog as things have been really crazy here in the shop. And I’ve been concentrating on an adventure I’ve wanted to begin for some time and the time is NOW!

This new undertaking really is the result of comments many of you made a couple of years ago about a Customer Gallery entry. When you scroll down and see the photo you’ll remember this design and you may well be one of the many stitchers who asked for the chart. It’s taken me a while to get to the point where I feel comfortable making this step but here we go. The photo below is a photo of the first design to be published and distributed by APH~Designs, our new design company! Right now there are a dozen or more on the list to be released so stay tuned!

In the meantime please enjoy Reader’s Paradise  with special pride knowing it was comments by readers of the blog that brought it into being. Of course you can now purchase your copy of the chart! Just click here to place your order.

Reader's Paradise by Joan Hersherberger

The verse is “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library”

We stitched the model on White 32ct Belfast Linen with DMC Floss and Kreinik #4 Braid and used our family member’s names on the books. You could use your family or perhaps your favorite authors or your favorite titles. This is an easy design to make all your own as we include an alphabet in two sizes and a grid for charting the words you want.  The #4 Braid is color 002. If you have a good collection of DMC you may well have all the threads you need to stitch this as it doesn’t take a lot of each color. If you need a list just let me know and I’ll email it to you. Order a fat eighth of the Belfast or if you prefer Aida, a fat quarter of 16ct.

I hope you enjoy this first offering and watch for more coming soon.

Celebration of Needlework

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

Thought I’d tell you a bit about Celebration of Needlework and what we’ll be doing in St Charles, Missouri the weekend of September 19th-22nd. At this hotel show designed to bring stitchers a weekend of stitching and shopping fun, Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs and I share a room filled with all the goodies we can carry up there. Goodies for you to bead or stitch, along with Mr D’s boxes and fun toys every stitcher loves!

We also will both be teaching at this show. Tracey is offering three beaded classes I think you’ll love! I will be teaching my Explorations Class with four colorways to choose from. In addition we are both doing a Make-It, Take-It project. Take a look at the photos and then go the the Celebration website to sign up. There you’ll find other participants like Linda Stoltz, Susan Greening-Davis, Barbara Jackson and Pam Reed and several others.

Vendors include some of the biggest names in the needlework world, Judy Whitman of JBW Designs, Cecilia’s Samplers, Inspired Needle, Erica Michaels, Rosewood Manor, Olde Colonial Designs, and many more! Plus you’ll be able to visit with each of these people in a relaxed environment where relationships can be formed and friendships established. You won’t want to miss this weekend.

Stitching 6 Fat Men

Monday, July 16th, 2012

This is a great project to stitch in all this heat! Watch my progress over the summer to see how it goes.

The first two Fat Men are done!

The first two Fat Men are stitched!

My edition of this Lizzie Kate collection is stitched on Toasted Almond Cashel from Zweigart with the Weeks Dye Works and Crescent Colours hand dyed floss. I’m having a great time with this, even stitching in the evening, something I’ve not done for awhile as I’m a morning stitcher. I’ll post updates as I complete each section.

Find the charts for this fun design here!

Let me tell you about…

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Last July I showed you the colors I chose for the Tree of Life pattern from Abi Gurden of Stitch Specialists Yahoo Group. I haven’t had as much time as I would like to stitch on this but I hope you enjoy seeing what’s happening on this fun piece. The theme I chose was to move through the seasons as you move around the tree starting in the lower left part with Winter and moving up into Spring, Summer, and then around to Fall. The color I chose for Winter doesn’t show up in the photo but does show up well on the piece. I really like the way the Fall color is stitching up. I’ll put in another couple of sections in the Winter color and then begin Spring. All my threads are Waterlilies from Caron Collection and the fabric is Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed 30ct fabric.  I’m loving stitching with these!

Just a start.

Just a start.

Did you know that you can see what’s new for leaflets each week by logging on to Hoffman Distributing and signing on to their Friday Update? Just click here and then click on E-Newsletter on the left side of the page to sign up. There is no advantage to marking that you’re a shop! Each Friday you’ll receive notice that they’ve posted the Update and you can go there to see what’s new that week.

While you’re on the site take a look at the “Friday Feature” where they interview designers about how they go about creating their work. These interviews are interesting, helping you connect to your favorite designer.

Until next time!

Weekend Project!

Friday, February 10th, 2012
So much fun!

So much fun!

When a piece can be stitched by me in a weekend you know it’s a quick to stitch piece. The girls tell me I’m the slowest stitcher they know! Now of course, it was Super Bowl weekend and we spent a good bit of time in front of the TV but I did get this one done from Saturday evening until Monday morning. I stitched for about an hour here with the Saturday Stitchers and then took it home. Fun to stitch and cute, you’ll stitch with Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art overdyed floss.

This one does not scream Valentine even if it would be perfect for that. We’re putting it in the top of a box Mr. D made and perhaps giving it to one of our girls for a gift! I’ll post a photo when it’s in the box.

Order this kit here.

Can You Find Me?

Remember the winner is the first person to submit the url.  Just copy and paste from your browser to the comments window once you find the piece. Good Luck!

Another great Needlework Hideaway added wonderful memories of stitching and learning and sharing with incredible people in an incredible environment! The Red Apple was again fantastic, the food great, and the attention we got very satisfying. Thanks to everyone in this awesome group of stitchers for the fun surprise party! I’m delighted that I got to spend my birthday with all of you.

The online Needlework Show is upon us. See what’s new at the Needlework Show and mark your calendar for 2pm April 14th, the first day of the show and remember that the General Viewing pages are closed at midnight on Sunday, April 17th. Get your orders to me by Monday noon so I have time to get them together and posted to the designers. More information will be sent next week!

Are you watching the excitement building for the Royal Wedding? Take a look at what Gay Ann Rogers has designed for those who really want to celebrate this event:

Royal Monogram Geometric in a Custom Box

Royal Monogram Geometric in a Custom Box

Along with the box top you’ll find a selection of stitchers’ toys to fill the box when you visit Gay Ann’s site. Sign up for Gay Ann’s stitching group at the Shinning Needle Society Yahoo Group.

You’ll find the box here along with some of Mr D’s other boxes. Enjoy!

I’ve signed up for a service from Google that alerts me when new items about embroidery are posted online. I’ve been amazed at the incredible pieces posted recently.  Seems as though the fashion industry has again found embroidery and many of the lines are featuring it on their designs. Of course, we know that it’s not much of a stretch to create your own one-of-a-kind pieces with a needle and thread. I’m considering offering a clothing embellishment class. Please drop me a line if your interested!

The beading trunk show from Threaded Needle Designs is back here for a few weeks. Watch for the new designs I’ll get posted as Tracey kits them up. Designers in this trunk show are Deb Moffett-Hall, Chris Manes, Ann Paxton-Winebrenner, Amy Loh-Kupser, and of course Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs.  Don’t miss these while they’re here.

In the meantime watch for the Online Show and take some time from gardening to stitch!
