Thanks to all who entered and to all who voted! Get your pieces in the works for next year’s Customer Gallery.

Don’t forget the Lizzie*Kate Trunk Show is still here through the 20th of August. You can see all the goodies that came with the show by clicking here and you can see all the Lizzie*Kate products in stock by clicking  here. Nothing beats seeing the models in person so if you’re close enough, come take a look! The next automatic is scheduled to ship on Monday so we may well have those new designs here before the end of the show. This shipment will include the long awaited 6 Fat Men series and the 2011 Tiny Tidings! You can keep up with all the Lizzie*Kate doings by following their blog.

Here's a sneak peek!

Here's a sneak peek!

Lots of fun things going on in the next few months. Tracey and I are participating in Celebration of Needlework in St. Charles, Missouri in September. You can see the information about this fun consumer show at Celebration of Needlework. Still plenty of time to register. Do you remember the Spirit of Cross Stitch events? This is the same type of event! Tracey is teaching a class on Peyote Stitch so if you’ve wanted to get started with that technique this is the perfect time to begin. She’s also bringing her Threaded Needle Designs Trunk Show so come participate in this great stitcher’s event.

Of course Needlework Hideaway is just a few months away, we’re counting the days now! The classes are up on the website so visit Needlework Hideaway to see them. We have two new teachers this time and are excited to add them to your choices. Ruby Bailey will teach a beautiful beaded bracelet and Libby Roleson will teach a Kumihimo Bracelet and a Basic Earring class. We’ve set our 2012 schedule and will have contracts with the Red Apple Inn soon.

We are changing the days and hours at the shop beginning the week of August 22nd. I’m off to ANG National Seminar in San Antonio, TX and Mr. D is keeping the shop open for you on Thurs., Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. These hours will be in effect until further notice but remember that we’ll open up for you when you need to come with just a phone call or email to make arrangements for that. Mail order will be handled just as always so your orders will go out as usual.

We’ve added a new Thread of the Month Club that came to us as a suggestion from a customer. Each month I’ll chose an overdyed thread and add a variety of threads to complement it to create a collection that can go directly into a project! We’ll choose from across the lines of threads we carry so you may get a collection based on Waterlilies or on ThreadworX or on Overture that may include Kreinik, Rainbow Gallery, Caron Collection, DMC, Bella Lusso, Accentuate, Trebizond, Weeks Dye Works, The Gentle Art… you get the idea, if the threads work together you’ll get them! We’re looking forward to this Collection so sign up today! Here’s where you can see them.

I can hardly wait until we actually get to Seminar as I’ve been stitching the ANG Stitch of the Month a little ahead at the request of the Board and am all finished but can’t show you until they are shown at Seminar. All the Area Representatives are working on these so the excitement is building to see them finished. Mr. D is framing mine next week and I’m going to take a photo so that I can post it here as soon as we get the go ahead!!

Keep cool and keep stitching,

June, 2011 Newsletter

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Ok, the heat is on! We’ve been above 100° for the last couple of days! Glad to be inside with my stitching…

I found this site with lovely stitched covers of Vogue Magazine and thought you might enjoy a look.

Vogue Covers

New colors of Gentle Art threads are in. Take a look here. Did you realize that any thread we carry is eligible for the Thread of the Month Club. Have a thread you’d like to collect? Just send me an email or give us a call at the shop and we’ll put together a TOMC for that thread. See the TOMC here.

We had a month long Yard Sale here in May but there are still a number of items left.  If you go to the home page and search Yard Sale you’ll see what’s here. I’ll be continuing to add to the list over the next few months as we have some threads we’re closing out and some other great products we just don’t have room for. Come back often to see what’s been added to the Yard Sale list.

It’s time to start planning for Christmas in July, we’ll have some kind of fun going on each week in July.  Also, each year we host the Customer Gallery in July and that will continue this year. The rule is you can show any project you’ve stitched that hasn’t already been shown in one of our prior Customer Gallery events. We need the pieces here by June 28th to give us time to check them in and get them hung by July 1. Each piece will be photographed and displayed on the website as well as in the shop so that online customers and in the shop customers get a chance to vote on the piece they like best. Gift Certificates will be given for First, Second, and Third place winners. Get your pieces in so you can have a chance to win!

Check out the Home Page for June’s monthly special and watch the Blog in the next couple of weeks. We have a customer who’s doing some really interesting work with specialty threads you’ll enjoy seeing and the Outside the Box group that meets here the 3rd Saturday of the month is doing some really fun things and I’ll take photos and share real soon.

New Classes are in the works, watch for an announcement when they are on the site!

See you soon,

Let me tell you about…. what’s stitchin’ this week

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Most of what I stitched on this last couple of weeks I cannot tell you about because it’s the class for Needlework Hideaway called Explorations and it’s a Mystery Project. All anyone can know about is the four colorways offered and the fact that the class teaches many stitches with many different threads! Take a look at Needlework Hideaway!

A Tatted Doily designed by Kim Beamish for A Needle Pulling Thread magazine

A Tatted Doily designed by Kim Beamish for A Needle Pulling Thread magazine

Another piece I’ve been working on for the last several weeks is a piece I found in A Needle Pulling Thread magazine.  This tatted piece is the first needle tatting I’ve done that isn’t lace or small medallions and was a bunch of fun. I made a mistake that I’m not going to take out and I stopped one round before the end of the pattern but this is the size I need for appliquéing to a pillow for our guest room that is done in all blue and white. This year I plan to complete the decorating in that room. I have rows for a quilt for the bed that were completed in a Row by Row challenge in our Quilt Guild a couple of years ago and that need to be put together, the room needs new drapes and I’m working on a cross stitch sampler all in blue on white for above the bed. I’ll post pictures as I get along with this project and you can keep me on task!

Scrumptous new colors!

Scrumptious new colors!

A box of thread was in the mail today and I couldn’t wait to share the new colors from ThreadworX! Aren’t they lovely? And the color names are just as scrumptious as the colors! These are Camel Hair, Creme de Menthe,  Cayenne Pepper and Indian Turquoise.  Don’t they make you just itch to stitch? We have several new ThreadworX  TOMC collectors and with these kinds of threads who can blame them? See for yourself here.

Let me know what you’re working on, I love hearing about all the wonderful projects out there!

Until next time, keep stitchin’

February, 2011 Newsletter

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Busy, busy month! For the first time in quite a while we have a needlepoint Trunk Show in the shop. CanvasWorks/Traditions has sent in some adorable Christmas Stockings and some lovely floral canvases. I’ll be taking photos and posting them to the site a few each day. The show goes home on Friday, February 25 so be sure to check it out while it’s here. We’re offering 15% off the canvases while they’re here. The shopping cart will not show the discount but we will apply it. Of course, best is to just come see!

By the way, the shop will be closed Friday, February 11 and Saturday, February 12 as I need to be in Texas for a SCR meeting.

Just in are the Lizzie Kate and Sweetheart Tree automatics. Click on Cross Stitch and then on each designer to see them. Lizzie Kate has a new Double Flip series called Halloween Rules that is really cute and of course, we’ve set up an automatic for that so you know you’ll not miss a thing. Take a look.

Sweetheart Tree has begun a new series called Quadrielle and I think these are awesome! She has kitted the designs so you get everything you need to complete it except the stuffing and any decorative trims you might want to use to dress yours up. The series will include special occasions and holidays so start your collection now!

New colors of ThreadworX and Gentle Art are on the way and new colors of Rainbow Gallery, Caron Collection and Weeks Dye Works will be in soon. Watch for the updates. While you’re on the Thread page check out the Thread of the Month Club. We’ve had a surge of new subscribers to these clubs and all are enjoying the excitement of receiving a packet of new threads the first of each month.

Blogs are the thing this year. Here are a couple of new blogs you might want to follow. Most have a Facebook page and are on Twitter as well. Get connected!

Here’s a link to an interesting antique needlework book. I understand this can just be downloaded but check it out first. I haven’t looked any further than just this page so I don’t want to lead you astray!

Until next time, keep stitching and keep warm.

July, 2010 Newsletter

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

To start, a quick reminder that the shop will be closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week for the July 4th holiday. We’ll be back in the shop on July 6th.

Check out the blog as we have a couple of new posts. One is an announcement from the Royal School in London that you’ll want to hear about, especially if you love to design. The other is  a photo of a customer’s work mounted in one of Mr. D’s trays. We’ve put the tray on the website so take a look, it’s the perfect finish for your special project.

New Lizzie Kate and Sweetheart Tree charts and kits are here. I’m working now to get them on the site and hope to have them there by the time you get this. If you don’t see them check back as I’m typing like mad!

Don’t forget the Customer Gallery and the Christmas in July celebration all of July. A customer from Shreveport was in recently and asked about entering the Customer Gallery online so we’re making a slight change in the program. We’ll kick off the Gallery on the 10th of July to give you time to get things here if you’re close enough to do that or get a photo to us for the Online Gallery if you’re not. Please send you photo in .jpg or .gif format and include the design name, designer, and chart publisher if applicable. Tell us anything you can about when you stitched it, changes you made, how it was finished, etc… Once the pictures are up I’ll send a note explaining how to vote for your favorite piece. We’ll have gifts for everyone who participates whether with a piece in the shop or a photo online. Thanks for the suggestion, Linda!

Many have asked about the technique of Laying Threads. I just found a great page online that clearly explains the technique. Take a look at heartwork/ Tech/laying For some reason I’m having trouble with this link. If you cannot click on it just copy and paste into your browser window to get to the diagrams.

This month’s 15th Year Anniversary special is 10% off on any Christmas themed project you purchase. Save the most by buying the chart, threads, and fabrics all at once to get the discount on all!

Enjoy the holiday and come see us soon!

I’m Stitching Again!

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

I’ve been busy stitching the past couple of months and it feels good to get back at it. Mr. D and I have spent lots of time in doctor’s offices and hospital rooms and let me tell you there isn’t much else to do there! Thought you would enjoy seeing the new Collector’s Club frame I’ve just finished. Those of you in the club should be seeing the August frame real soon and this one in July. I’ve started on the October and the scare crow on it is adorable, you’ll love this one.

Stitcher’s Workshop June, 2010 Newsletter

Saturday, June 5th, 2010

A change in schedule you need to know about. We will NOT be closed in June after all. A medical issue with Mr. D changed our plans so we’ll be here all month. Come see us! June’s 15th Anniversary Celebration special is one thread of your choice (limit $3.75 in stock thread) with every $25 thread order you place this month. Use this opportunity to try a new thread or fill in your collection.

Get your pieces together for our annual Christmas in July Customer Gallery. You remember all the beautiful pieces we had here last year. Many of you have completed lovely pieces that will be perfect for this show. Please have your pieces here by June 30. We’ll get them on the site by end of day, July 6 for the voting to begin! Remember there are great prizes for everyone who enters and for those who receive the most customer votes. First, Second, and Third Place prizes will be awarded.

We will be closed for the 4th of July holiday July 1 thru July 5 as we have two new great-grandsons to visit over the holiday. Can’t wait!

We’ve completed a couple more of the Lizzie Kate Painted Canvases. You can see them here or on the blog. Also finished another of the Collector Club canvases. These are both fun clubs to offer and to collect. Sign up today and you’ll receive a new kit each month (or every other month if you prefer) and unlike those who signed up early you shouldn’t have to wait for me to catch up!

New to the site this month, the Soie ‘d alger Thread of the Month Club is a great way to get this beautiful thread coming your way. This silk floss has a wide range of colors and three or more shades in each c! olor so creating beautifully shaded projects is easy. I’m wanting to add to the blue and white theme in my guest room and a lovely pattern for a vase that I’m converting to Soie ‘d Alger will be the perfect addition. Give this great thread a try, sign up here.  While you’re there check out the other great threads in our Thread of the Month Club.

Create your own charts using alphabets at this site. Enjoy!

Rhonda is going back to school this fall and her time to work will be limited so if you think you’d enjoy playing with the threads, seeing all the new charts as they arrive, working with people who love needlework as much as you do, and just being out of the house, give me a call. We’re looking for someone who’s interested in part time work so if you’d like a few hours a week, this job’s for you.

Thanks to a customer for a link to this site where you’ll find color listings for lots of the more common threads. Use the lists to help organize your stash. Click on the link to “Creating Order Out of Chaos” for great hints to get organized.

I know many of you enjoy surface embroidery as much as I do. Here you will find some awesome inspiration and great information. Even if you’re not crazy about crazy quilts and surface embroidery the site has a great stitch dictionary so check it out! You know we have all the threads you’ll need to create your special design.

March 2010 Newsletter

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Wow, has the time gotten away from us, thanks to you this has been a super busy first of the year for Stitcher’s Workshop.

As a result this note is a couple of weeks late and for that I apologize! However, since we missed out on the beginning of our March 15th Year Celebration, we’re going to extend the Luck ‘o the Irish event for the entire rest of the month. St. Patrick’s Day is the kick-off and, just as we do every year, we’ll have tea and scones all day tomorrow and our Pot ‘o Gold for you to choose your discount. Remember you could receive anywhere from 10% to 50% off your purchases all day the 16th. Just make you selections and pick a coin from the Pot ‘o Gold and you’ll receive the discount you find there. This event extends to our online customers as well, so make your choices, submit your order and we’ll have a customer in the shop when we receive the order pull your coin. You get the discount shown!

Because this is such late notice we will be extending the discount every Wednesday for the rest of the month! No tea and scones I’m afraid but the Pot ‘o Gold stays on the desk until the end of the month! Just make sure to shop on Wednesday!

Have you tried YouTube yet? I was curious so I typed Needlepoint in the search window and found tons of interesting videos on needlepoint. If you type in needlework stitches you’ll find everything from Continental Stitch to knitting stitches. You might want to take a little of what you see with a grain of salt but for the most part I was really impressed with the information.

Another cool place to visit online is the ThreadworX site where you can see an awesome color card of their threads and sign up for their newsletter packed with good information and fun projects. Just click on the Join button in the upper right corner of the home page and you’ll be directed to the sign ! up page.

Needlework Hideaway is coming up soon. I leave for the Red Apple on Thursday, March 25 for a fun filled weekend of stitching, food, stitching, friends, stitching… You get the idea. We still have room but if you’re planning to attend call now as I’m making the last minute reservations.

New From Nancy’s Needle designs are on the Counted Canvas page. Just click on Small Monthly Quilt Series and then on Quilt Series to see her newest designs. Want it easy? Just type New in the Search Engine.

Also, new colors from Caron Collection in both Watercolours and Wildflowers! Sign up today for the Caron Thread of the Month Club and collect all these beautiful threads! Find them here.

Until next time, keep stitching,

Stitcher’s Workshop January Newsletter

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Hi all,

Start the New Year off right. Take a few minutes to play. This link was posted on one of the lists I read and it was so much fun I had to share! Enjoy…

As you know, we are celebrating our 15th year all of 2010 with different “Thank You” promotions every month. January is 15% off on everything in the Tools and Finishing Supplies section of the website and off all the tools in the shop. Need something you don’t see on the website? Call the shop, we may have it and just don’t have it online yet. Stock up this month with the supplies you use every day!

I was introduced to the Women of Hope Project by a fellow EGA member who’s husband had encountered the organization while in Afghanistan. The work this organization is doing makes a real difference in the lives of women who have had very little help or support. Take a look at what is happening at

We just loaded the Deb Moffett-Hall Birthstone Ornaments to the Bead page of the website. This is a great collector’s item so we’ve added a Birthstone Ornament Collector Club. Sign up and save while you collect the entire series. You can see them here .
Nothing is easier than our Collector Clubs. Just place your order and find a surprise package in your mail every month. We have collections in threads, needlepoint, cross stitch, and beading. Just type Collector Club in the search engine to see them all. If you would like to collect a thread we don’t show as a TOMC just let us know, we’ll set one up.

Don’t forget the January special, especially those of you who drive here together. Groups of five or more will receive a grab bag in addition to the “Thank You” special this month!

If you missed the announcement, we have all the Fern Ridge things on the site now. See them here and here and here. This is a really popular line, try a kit and you’ll see why!

A special thanks to those of you who joined us for the Christmas Party! Your generosity allowed us to take two big boxes of food to the Salvation Army Food Pantry. As it turned out we delivered the food the day they had distributed more than 800 food baskets so the extra items were really appreciated. You are all awesome!

I was going to tell you all about the new contest on  the Blog. In fact I said “Visit the Blog for another fun contest. Just click on Blog on the home page of the website to play and win.” However, I had a last minute customer (thank you!) last night and didn’t get this Newsletter sent before my meeting. More people than I realized are following the Blog because when I got back to this this morning I had two correct answers within 5 minutes of each other and in less than an hour after I loaded the contest! Don’t worry, I’ll do another and this time I’ll make sure the announcement goes out before the Blog is posted. But perhaps you need to get set up to get all the posts as soon as they’re loaded by clicking on the RSS Feed button on the right side of the Blog page. A good idea because we’ll be having contests for those who follow the Blog as well as for those who receive the Newsletter. Click on the icon on the right to get that done.

See you soon,

Another Frame Completed

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009
I love the colors on this Frame!

I love the colors on this Frame!

I just finished stitching the August Frame for the Collector’s Club and thought you would like to take a look. This was a fun piece to stitch and an interesting project as I wanted to try to make the backgrounds look like baskets to hold the apples. I was able to try a couple of threads I hadn’t used much and discovered that they may have to be called on more often.

The area in the center of the left side of the frame was the most fun to stitch. I used Frosty Rays for the gold and green and actually did an over/under weave in those areas. The red is Silk Lame’ Braid, my new favorite thread. If you haven’t tried this one you might want to choose it for the next project you do that needs a bit of glitz. Easy to stitch with and available for either 18m or 13m canvas.

Because these frames are designed for the Collector Club members, I chose not to stitch paint the apples but instead to basketweave them. I love playing with stitch painting but it is not the favorite of a lot of stitchers. I chose two colors for the apples but if I had it to do over again I would have expanded the shading opportunities by combining the two thread colors to add at least one additional shading option. When I kit this I’ll be sure there is enough thread for the stitcher to make that choice.

The green background in the two corners is stitched with one strand of Rainbow Twead from Rainbow Gallery. What a great thread! The combination of colors really does give a true tweed look that was perfect for the stitch I chose.

The best fun of all was the stems. Elizabeth Talledo and I were looking at the piece at Needlework Hideaway as I had tried a couple of techniques for the stems and wasn’t happy with either. Elizabeth suggested a detatched wrap around a base thread and that seemed to accomplish just what was needed, dimension that looked realistic.

The frames are designed by Pam Hill of Pamela Hill Designs. Some of you know Pam as she worked for me in 2002/2003 both in the shop and at South Central EGA Region Seminar in Oklahoma City. Pam uses strong colors and great combinations to accomplish the theme of each piece. In the case of the frames she leaves some geometric areas so stitches can be combined to accent the areas containing the motifs.

Stitching these frames has really expanded my stitch knowledge and my willingness to try different thread and stitch combinations to get the effect I’m looking for. I still have 6 more to do so follow along and I’ll post each as I get it stitched. Let me know what you think!
