Thought I’d tell you a bit about Celebration of Needlework and what we’ll be doing in St Charles, Missouri the weekend of September 19th-22nd. At this hotel show designed to bring stitchers a weekend of stitching and shopping fun, Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs and I share a room filled with all the goodies we can carry up there. Goodies for you to bead or stitch, along with Mr D’s boxes and fun toys every stitcher loves!
We also will both be teaching at this show. Tracey is offering three beaded classes I think you’ll love! I will be teaching my Explorations Class with four colorways to choose from. In addition we are both doing a Make-It, Take-It project. Take a look at the photos and then go the the Celebration website to sign up. There you’ll find other participants like Linda Stoltz, Susan Greening-Davis, Barbara Jackson and Pam Reed and several others.
Vendors include some of the biggest names in the needlework world, Judy Whitman of JBW Designs, Cecilia’s Samplers, Inspired Needle, Erica Michaels, Rosewood Manor, Olde Colonial Designs, and many more! Plus you’ll be able to visit with each of these people in a relaxed environment where relationships can be formed and friendships established. You won’t want to miss this weekend.
Tracey’s Classes:
 Crystal Elegance Necklace
 Kumihimo Braided Necklace
 Hearty Bead Bracelet
Pat’s Classes:

Just a few short months ago a new customer placed a bead kit order with me, then another in a week or so and then another with a note saying how much she was enjoying the process! Take a look at the great pieces she’s created just since the first of the year:
Balmy Beach Fob by Fern Ridge Collections
The Buzzzzz from Fern Ridge Collections
Honeycomb Fob from Fern Ridge Collections
 Cattitude from Fern Ridge Collections
Cattitude she made for a friend, I think you’ll agree that we all need a friend like her! Thanks for sharing Sandy
You can find all of these great kits and more on the site, just click here.

 So much fun!
When a piece can be stitched by me in a weekend you know it’s a quick to stitch piece. The girls tell me I’m the slowest stitcher they know! Now of course, it was Super Bowl weekend and we spent a good bit of time in front of the TV but I did get this one done from Saturday evening until Monday morning. I stitched for about an hour here with the Saturday Stitchers and then took it home. Fun to stitch and cute, you’ll stitch with Weeks Dye Works and Gentle Art overdyed floss.
This one does not scream Valentine even if it would be perfect for that. We’re putting it in the top of a box Mr. D made and perhaps giving it to one of our girls for a gift! I’ll post a photo when it’s in the box.
Order this kit here.

It’s been a while since I wrote a Newsletter so take a look at the fun beaded fobs I’ve stitched since Fall Hideaway.
Tracey of Threaded Needle Designs created these two fun fobs!
See the kits along with a couple more Tracey has designed here. I had a great time with these, they went quickly so I wasn’t overwhelmed but were enough of a challenge to keep me beading! We will have a class in even count Peyote Stitch on Tuesday, March 20th from 10am to Noon or from 2pm to 4pm. You choose one of the kits from the fobs on the Threaded Needle Designs page. Cost of the kit pays your class fee. You need to sign up by Monday March 12th.
We still have room for a few more stitchers at Needlework Hideaway. See the great classes we’re offering this time here.
February 17 and 18 we will be having our “delayed” Christmas Party. As you know we ran out of time in December so we’ve decided to celebrate our great customers with a Party in February. Lots of items on sale, lots! The following weekend is Nashville Market so we need to move out inventory to make room for the new I’ll bring back. Admission to the Party will be a food item to be donated to the Salvation Army. Watch for more information on what will be on sale and how the website customers can participate!
We have a Fern Ridge trunk show here now with the new items we don’t even have on the website yet! Come see…
Lots of interesting things going on in the needlework world recently so I thought I’d share. Big, big news is the results of the auction at Sotheby’s. Read all about it in the New York Times.
Kreinik has some great free patterns you can download. See them on Kreinik’s site.
The needlework world lost a icon in December. Read about this larger than life figure, Erica Wilson again in the New York Times.
Stitcher’s Village is hosting a designer chat with Tracy Horner of Ink Circles on Saturday Jan. 28th at 9pm Eastern. Go to sign up on the Stitcher’s Village site.
Until next time, keep stitching!

Lots and lots of things to talk about this month. First, we have the Customer Gallery winners!
 First Place Winner
 Second Place Winner
 Third Place Winner
You know, I think we were all winners getting to see the wonderful pieces. If you have a piece here you might want to come pick it up and pick up your winnings and your discount coupons for entering. Thanks to all who entered and to all who voted! Get your pieces in the works for next year’s Customer Gallery.
Don’t forget the Lizzie*Kate Trunk Show is still here through the 20th of August. You can see all the goodies that came with the show by clicking here and you can see all the Lizzie*Kate products in stock by clicking here. Nothing beats seeing the models in person so if you’re close enough, come take a look! The next automatic is scheduled to ship on Monday so we may well have those new designs here before the end of the show. This shipment will include the long awaited 6 Fat Men series and the 2011 Tiny Tidings! You can keep up with all the Lizzie*Kate doings by following their blog.
 Here's a sneak peek!
Lots of fun things going on in the next few months. Tracey and I are participating in Celebration of Needlework in St. Charles, Missouri in September. You can see the information about this fun consumer show at Celebration of Needlework. Still plenty of time to register. Do you remember the Spirit of Cross Stitch events? This is the same type of event! Tracey is teaching a class on Peyote Stitch so if you’ve wanted to get started with that technique this is the perfect time to begin. She’s also bringing her Threaded Needle Designs Trunk Show so come participate in this great stitcher’s event.
Of course Needlework Hideaway is just a few months away, we’re counting the days now! The classes are up on the website so visit Needlework Hideaway to see them. We have two new teachers this time and are excited to add them to your choices. Ruby Bailey will teach a beautiful beaded bracelet and Libby Roleson will teach a Kumihimo Bracelet and a Basic Earring class. We’ve set our 2012 schedule and will have contracts with the Red Apple Inn soon.
We are changing the days and hours at the shop beginning the week of August 22nd. I’m off to ANG National Seminar in San Antonio, TX and Mr. D is keeping the shop open for you on Thurs., Friday, and Saturday from 10am to 5pm. These hours will be in effect until further notice but remember that we’ll open up for you when you need to come with just a phone call or email to make arrangements for that. Mail order will be handled just as always so your orders will go out as usual.
We’ve added a new Thread of the Month Club that came to us as a suggestion from a customer. Each month I’ll chose an overdyed thread and add a variety of threads to complement it to create a collection that can go directly into a project! We’ll choose from across the lines of threads we carry so you may get a collection based on Waterlilies or on ThreadworX or on Overture that may include Kreinik, Rainbow Gallery, Caron Collection, DMC, Bella Lusso, Accentuate, Trebizond, Weeks Dye Works, The Gentle Art… you get the idea, if the threads work together you’ll get them! We’re looking forward to this Collection so sign up today! Here’s where you can see them.
I can hardly wait until we actually get to Seminar as I’ve been stitching the ANG Stitch of the Month a little ahead at the request of the Board and am all finished but can’t show you until they are shown at Seminar. All the Area Representatives are working on these so the excitement is building to see them finished. Mr. D is framing mine next week and I’m going to take a photo so that I can post it here as soon as we get the go ahead!!
Keep cool and keep stitching,
Pat

Do you have a stitching group you meet with? Here’s a great article about a stitching group in Charlotte, North Caroline I thought you would enjoy!
We have a reasonably new group called “Outside the Box” meeting here at the shop the Third Saturday of each month. Any and all are welcome so if these projects catch your interest, plan to join us. The group is an off shoot of the Quilt Guild I belong to but it’s open to anyone who’s interested in exploring design and creativity.
Can you find my name in this piece?
Our first meeting we wrote our name on a piece of paper, folded it just below the name and copied it on the folded over space. Our challenge was then to create something from the resulting outline. After I filled in the blanks, I copied the outline over on a piece of muslin and painted it. This will be my cartoon for further development. At this point I’d like to create both a quilted piece and a canvas piece from this. Exploring ways to make that work will be a ton of fun!
Let me introduce you to Ms PataName!
Our second meeting we explored flower pounding, a perfect way to get out any built up frustrations. Everyone there created awesome pieces dyed with the stain of the flower or leaf they pounded. We’ll use the resulting pieces in future projects. Here are a couple of mine…
Here's what I was able to create using the Wisteria I showed you a few weeks back.
I think I’ll do some Stumpwork on this piece. Perhaps a few leaves and blossoms and a bumble bee!
Hibiscus pounded with a small head hammer.
Hibiscus is a really moist blossom so they transfer color beautifully. I really liked the effect of the small hammer marks on this one but I’m also going to do one with the large mallet to see the difference.
At our next meeting we’re going to play with stamping on fabric. Come join us! We meet here at the shop at noon for a sack lunch and then play until about 3pm.
After we collect a number of items we’ve created we’ll decide what project to use them on. Perhaps an embellished collage type piece, all original, all fun! On the machine or by hand we’ll add wonderful threads, beads, buttons, and attachments to enhance our designs. Gosh, I can’t wait!
Do you have a stitching group you meet with? Tell us about your group’s activities, who knows you might just inspire another group to get started stitching together.
Keep stitching,
Pat

CORRECTIONS!!
My apologies to Pat Starks for spelling her name wrong and to Kathy Schenkel for giving credit for her design to A Collection of Designs. Don’t know wehre my brain went while I was working on this…
Â
These pieces were finished by Pat Stark, a regular at Needlework Hideaway, after we had a talk about finishing and a demo of finishing needlepoint canvases. Isn’t it great when someone takes what you’ve shown them and creates such fun pieces!
Pat wanted a different finish for this cute little chick and the "Gift" finishing technique was just what she needed!

Another great Needlework Hideaway added wonderful memories of stitching and learning and sharing with incredible people in an incredible environment! The Red Apple was again fantastic, the food great, and the attention we got very satisfying. Thanks to everyone in this awesome group of stitchers for the fun surprise party! I’m delighted that I got to spend my birthday with all of you.
The online Needlework Show is upon us. See what’s new at the Needlework Show and mark your calendar for 2pm April 14th, the first day of the show and remember that the General Viewing pages are closed at midnight on Sunday, April 17th. Get your orders to me by Monday noon so I have time to get them together and posted to the designers. More information will be sent next week!
Are you watching the excitement building for the Royal Wedding? Take a look at what Gay Ann Rogers has designed for those who really want to celebrate this event:
Royal Monogram Geometric in a Custom Box
Along with the box top you’ll find a selection of stitchers’ toys to fill the box when you visit Gay Ann’s site. Sign up for Gay Ann’s stitching group at the Shinning Needle Society Yahoo Group.
You’ll find the box here along with some of Mr D’s other boxes. Enjoy!
I’ve signed up for a service from Google that alerts me when new items about embroidery are posted online. I’ve been amazed at the incredible pieces posted recently. Seems as though the fashion industry has again found embroidery and many of the lines are featuring it on their designs. Of course, we know that it’s not much of a stretch to create your own one-of-a-kind pieces with a needle and thread. I’m considering offering a clothing embellishment class. Please drop me a line if your interested!
The beading trunk show from Threaded Needle Designs is back here for a few weeks. Watch for the new designs I’ll get posted as Tracey kits them up. Designers in this trunk show are Deb Moffett-Hall, Chris Manes, Ann Paxton-Winebrenner, Amy Loh-Kupser, and of course Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs. Don’t miss these while they’re here.
In the meantime watch for the Online Show and take some time from gardening to stitch!

Luck ‘o the Irish is back! This year we’ll celebrate the 17th, 18th and 19th so make your list, place your order and we’ll have a customer in the shop pull your coin to discover the discount. Remember that discounts range from 15% to 50%Â and last year an in-store customer pulled a 15% for herself and a 35% for the online order so come play with us, you may win big!
For those of you close enough to come visit, tea and scones, Celtic music and lots of great merchandise await you. Everyone wins on this special weekend!
Even better, we have the Threaded Needle Designs trunk show here now. Tracey puts together kits for Ann Paxton, Deb Moffet-Hall, Chris Manes, and of course for Threaded Needle Designs. Lots of goodies in this show and several new kits and patterns. You’ll have to come see as I’ll be busy making scones and can’t be sure I’ll get all the new items on the website in time for the Luck ‘o the Irish! See what we already have online here.
As part of the Trunk Show we’ll be hosting an in-and-out class in beading. Just buy one of the kits, find a spot at the table, and we’ll help you get started learning the basics of beading! Price of the kit is cost of the class so you’ll never have a chance to learn that’s any less expensive than that! If you’ve looked at the beading things here in the shop and wished you knew how, take advantage of this great offer.
Needlework Hideaway is the 31st of March thru the 3rd of April so the shop will be closed March 31, April 1 and 2. I’ll be shipping all orders that come in during that time on April 4th.
A local customer is interested in setting up a Round Robin stitching group here in Union County area. If you want more information just call the shop or drop in and we’ll talk about it. A Round Robin is a fun way to meet new stitchers and receive a piece of needlework stitched by other stitchers to your specifications. You choose the theme and set the parameters, send off the piece and when you see it again it’s all stitched. You get to stitch on the pieces chosen by the others in your group so you have stitching opportunities different from what you might choose. I’ve participated in a couple of Round Robins in the past and had a great time with it. Call!
See you soon!
