10 Minute Table Runner

Friday, April 27th, 2012

I learned this project from Jeanette at Needlework Hideaway Spring 2012 retreat. What a great way to learn new things and see new projects as well as hear some incredible stories!

Thanks Jeanette!

Thanks Jeanette!

Materials list:

12½” x width of fabric main color

18½” x width of fabric background color (be sure to purchase more than 18″ so you have trim – mine finished 17″ because I didn’t)

2 buttons for trim

Cut fabric. My main color is a stripe that runs the length of the fabric so I purchased 1½ yards and cut it 12½” x 44″ centering the stripes in the 12½” and cutting on the straight of the print rather than the straight of the grain. I trimmed one end after I got the side seams sewn.

With right sides together and using a ¼” seam sew the fabric together on the long sides.

Turn right side out and arrange until the borders are the same width then press.

Fold the piece in half the long way with the main color to the inside of the fold and stitch the ends closed using a ¼” seam.

Open the fold with the flaps to the front and work them out evenly. Fold the points down over the front of the runner and tack them in place or sew the buttons to the points to secure and you’re done! (I made yoyos with the main color and sewed the buttons thru the middle of the yoyo and thru the point to the back of the runner. I like the dimension the yoyo adds.)

Took me more than 10 minutes but it was quick…

Needlework Hideaway Fall, 2009

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

What a great time we had at the Fall Needlework Hideaway at the Red Apple Inn in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Twenty-seven stitchers and three teachers shared their love of stitching for three days filled with fun, food, and fellowship surrounded by the incredible views seen only in the heart of the Ozarks!

Stitchers began arriving shortly after noon on Thursday and setting up their “stitching nests” was a first priority! By the time the Boutique was set up they were already hard at work.

The Boutique is right at hand when a break from stitching is needed.

Several classes are offered at the Needlework Hideaway and some participate. Others come to stitch on projects already started or on new projects from the Boutique they just couldn’t resist.

Beading classes are especially popular. Tracey has been offering a Notebook Class so beaders can create examples of the different beading stitches and techniques.

Small classes mean lots of individual attention from the teachers.

Stitcher’s logged on to check out the online Retail Needlwork Show during breaks from stitching. Some took time to check emails and get a bit of work done, then right back to the stitching!

Many projects were completed or nearly completed! Several used a rotation system to work on projects, working one day on one project then the next day another.

Here we celebrate the completion of a first time beading project.

Needlework Hideaway

Friday, October 30th, 2009

We’re deep into choosing what fun products we’ll be taking for the Boutique for the Fall Needlework Hideaway, can’t wait for everyone to see the great new things we have for them! There will be a trunk show from Fern Ridge Designs and from Pamela Hill Designs, charts from all the names, From Nancy’s Needle, Ink Circles, Victoria Sampler, Lizzie Kate, Sweetheart Tree, and many more. There will be kits from Barbara Jackson, toys from Puffin & Co., and boxes from Mr. D. Let’s see, what else can I bring??

Of course Tracey will have all her wonderful beads and kits for such names as Deb Moffett-Hall, Chris Manes, Ann (Paxton) Winebrenner…

This Hideaway is going to be especially fun, we have Elizabeth Tolledo of Dames of the Needle coming to teach one of her beautiful samplers and a scissors fob she designed just for our Fall Hideaway. This is also the largest group we’ve had so far with 30 of us meeting to stitch and eat, and stitch and enjoy the incredible views, and stitch and eat, and stitch and laugh, and stitch and eat… You get the idea!

Oh yes, and Elizabeth is bringing her Trunk Show. More opportunities to find great new projects to stitch!

The Red Apple Inn is a beautiful place with a staff that goes out of their way to see to your every need. The hotel manager even went into the closed kitchen and made us hot chocolate at 10:30 at night because we were in need. I learned later that this was the first hot chocolate he had ever made! The views from every window are awesome and by the way, windows are floor to ceiling in the Sit-n-Stitch room.

Some people come for the classes, some people come for the Sit-n-Stitch, everyone comes because the group is just a ton of fun. Lots of laughs, sharing, and caring…

Go to Needlework Hideaway to see what’s in store for all those great stitchers who are joining us. Doesn’t it look like fun? It’s not too early to sign up for Spring. I’ll remind you next week and you can go see what’s happening in the Spring and get your spot at the table reserved.

See you after Hideaway…
