Exciting News!

April 28th, 2013

It’s been some time since I’ve added to the Blog as things have been really crazy here in the shop. And I’ve been concentrating on an adventure I’ve wanted to begin for some time and the time is NOW!

This new undertaking really is the result of comments many of you made a couple of years ago about a Customer Gallery entry. When you scroll down and see the photo you’ll remember this design and you may well be one of the many stitchers who asked for the chart. It’s taken me a while to get to the point where I feel comfortable making this step but here we go. The photo below is a photo of the first design to be published and distributed by APH~Designs, our new design company! Right now there are a dozen or more on the list to be released so stay tuned!

In the meantime please enjoy Reader’s Paradise  with special pride knowing it was comments by readers of the blog that brought it into being. Of course you can now purchase your copy of the chart! Just click here to place your order.

Reader's Paradise by Joan Hersherberger

The verse is “I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library”

We stitched the model on White 32ct Belfast Linen with DMC Floss and Kreinik #4 Braid and used our family member’s names on the books. You could use your family or perhaps your favorite authors or your favorite titles. This is an easy design to make all your own as we include an alphabet in two sizes and a grid for charting the words you want.  The #4 Braid is color 002. If you have a good collection of DMC you may well have all the threads you need to stitch this as it doesn’t take a lot of each color. If you need a list just let me know and I’ll email it to you. Order a fat eighth of the Belfast or if you prefer Aida, a fat quarter of 16ct.

I hope you enjoy this first offering and watch for more coming soon.

Shopping the Online Needlework Show

October 18th, 2012

See what’s new this season on the Online Needlework Show. Click here. Then click on General Viewing in the upper right hand corner of the page. You do not need a password so if the system asks for one you are on the wrong page.

Just a reminder of how this works. You look at the individual vendors’ offerings and record the name of the vendor and the name and/or number of the design you like. Email me a list of your wants and I will price it out for you before you actually place the order. If we have your credit card information on file we will order and ship the merchandise when it arrives. If you haven’t purchased from us before you will need to call with your credit card info or indicate that you want a PayPal invoice.

On occasion  someone will order an item that is the only thing we need from that vendor. Because of minimum order requirements, we may not be able to fill that order. We will let you know of that’s the case at the end of the show and try to find a shop that is purchasing from that vendor to fill the order for you. Please remember that the designers will be very busy getting orders out and we will be very busy collecting them up and getting them to you so please be patient. If your order is a rush for a gift or some other reason be sure to let us know.

The show closes at Midnight on the 23rd of October so I need your orders to me by 5pm that day.

Be sure to email or call if you have questions about this fun event.

My apologies to the stitchers for the quality of the photos.  I have a good bit of trouble with the photos of pieces under glass because of our lights here in the shop.

Please note, we are working to get more information about the designers and will update as that information becomes available. If you recognize a piece be sure to let us know.

Hints about working with Q-Snaps

September 16th, 2012

For awhile I’ve been thinking of adding a “tips” section to the Blog and when I learn how to upload videos I hope to post some “how to” information as well. Something happened this week that made now the perfect time to set up the “Points for Perfection” area on this page. Any time you want to see what we’ve learned that we want to share with you or find a hint on how to make your work better just click on the drop down menu on the right and choose “Points for Perfection”. If you have a hint you’d like to share just post it in a comment on this page and I’ll try it out. Please let me know what you think about this idea!

Some time ago a customer told me how she deals with fabric that is just almost too small for the Q-Snap frame she wants to use and I filed her hint away in the “information I may need someday” spot in my brain. Am I ever glad I did. I began an “over one” Names design for an ornament recently on a piece of fabric I had in my stash. The fabric is plenty big enough for my piece but not quite big enough for the 8″ Q-Snap. It fit over the frame but was too small to be able to tighten as much as I like. Customer to the rescue! This works so well I just had to share with you.

The shelf line is that lacy looking stuff you see peeking out from under the clips.

The shelf liner is that lacy looking stuff you see peeking out from under the clips.

Cut a strip of non-stick shelf liner wide enough to fit a little over half way around the Q-Snap tube and short enough to fit between the elbows. I cut one for each side of my Q-Snap. Lay the strip down over the fabric and then snap on the Clip. Do this all the way around and when you tighten you clips the fabric will be just as taught as you could ask for and it stays that way! This is a great tip and once again I learned something incredible from a customer. Thank you!

By the way, the design is a Name Tree that you can see and order here!

Do you have a tip you think others might benefit from hearing about? If so just post it in the comments section below, we will be glad to give your idea a try.

Inventory is Finished!

September 13th, 2012

What a great feeling! The girls finished recording the last batch of leaflets yesterday and other than the canvases we are finished. Mr D is going to help with the canvases tomorrow and then I get to reconcile everything and get it in presentable form so I can actually see what it is that I have. About five times an hour yesterday I heard them ask each other “can you believe she has this much stuff in here?” I can tell you that in the next little while you should expect that I’ll be making it easier for you to help me move some of it out of the shop. No % off sales but perhaps I’ll “bundle” some things and give you a great price for the bundle. Any of you watch American Pickers?

Here’s what’s happening this week!

August 30th, 2012

Recently the stitchers who join us for Saturday Stitch have been excited about the Nouveau Encore Designs Name Trees. They found these on the Online Needlework Show this spring and have been stitching up a storm! I thought I’d share mine with you as I just finished stitching in this morning.

I had to find something to do on this fabric from Picture this Plus called Jaz!

I had to find something to do on this fabric from Picture this Plus called Jazz!

These are fun to stitch and very quick – two evenings and one morning stitching session! You’ll find out how to order here!

I used the hand dyed fabric with ThreadworX floss for the name and Splendor from Rainbow Gallery for the center post. The pattern had a chart for the star at the top but I think I’ll use the Mill Hill Treasure and the tiny stars and hearts to decorate the tree.

This view might make it easier for you to see the name!

Stitch first name or last name, these make great gifts!

Any name or word available so just let me know what works for you!

Celebration of Needlework

August 18th, 2012

Thought I’d tell you a bit about Celebration of Needlework and what we’ll be doing in St Charles, Missouri the weekend of September 19th-22nd. At this hotel show designed to bring stitchers a weekend of stitching and shopping fun, Tracey Shultz of Threaded Needle Designs and I share a room filled with all the goodies we can carry up there. Goodies for you to bead or stitch, along with Mr D’s boxes and fun toys every stitcher loves!

We also will both be teaching at this show. Tracey is offering three beaded classes I think you’ll love! I will be teaching my Explorations Class with four colorways to choose from. In addition we are both doing a Make-It, Take-It project. Take a look at the photos and then go the the Celebration website to sign up. There you’ll find other participants like Linda Stoltz, Susan Greening-Davis, Barbara Jackson and Pam Reed and several others.

Vendors include some of the biggest names in the needlework world, Judy Whitman of JBW Designs, Cecilia’s Samplers, Inspired Needle, Erica Michaels, Rosewood Manor, Olde Colonial Designs, and many more! Plus you’ll be able to visit with each of these people in a relaxed environment where relationships can be formed and friendships established. You won’t want to miss this weekend.
